From Scratch Black Bean Burger

Making time to prepare a meal from scratch during the week is a lost art for many of us. How many families these days actually sit down to a home cooked meal together nightly? In all seriousness, I am lucky if am able to cook half of my work week days. It’s something we ALL can benefit from-not only for our health and wallets, but our communication skills as well. Research has shown that children from families that dine together score higher in the classroom, have better vocabulary and reading skills, and are more likely to be emotionally content. As technology has become a welcome guest at many tables, the focus on human connection has decreased. Play the ‘phone stack’ game at your next meal-all patrons place their cell phones in a stack on the table and no one picks up his phone until the end of the meal. Almost Back On Track

Woah! My food splurge on NYE consisted of 3 courses and a bottle of wine with my fiancé at Mere Bulles in Brentwood, TN. Nearly three days have passed, and my stomach is still telling me it’s full. As a Registered Dietitian, I am often judged by the food on my plate, which is understandable. You will find that I am in no way defined by any one style of eating; I eat to provide my body with the vitamins and nutrients it needs, but I do love to indulge every now and then. New Year’s Eve was one of those times. That being said, I’m grateful the holiday season is coming to an end and I can get back on track! Mere Bulles has been a tradition for many in the middle TN area for nearly 20 years. That is quite a long run by present restaurant standards in the Nashville area.
