Welcome! After my corporate job was eliminated last year, I transitioned into the full time freelance world.

Living with less provided the freedom to focus on other passions and I've been freelance writing for environmentally conscious brands and busy entrepreneurs since.

When it comes to food, clothing and household goods, I’m a bit of a purist, which drives my husband CRAZY.  Synthetic ingredients, materials and cheap imposters? Getouttttahea! We recently needed to replace our toilet seats, and who knew I could find a wood version, crafted right here in the USA. Too much information?

Naturally (pun intended), I’m REALLLLLLLY picky about what I allow into my wardrobe these days, but when JORD watches reached out to collaborate, I jumped on the chance. Several of my favorite ethical and mindful fashion friends had introduced me to the brand, so I’m incredibly grateful they asked me to host a product giveaway.

THE BRAND

“Jord” is a word meaning ‘Earth’ from Swedish, Norwegian and Danish descent.  It’s fitting that all JORD watches and Apple watch bands are made from sustainably sourced woods, from acacia to maple to walnut and zebrawood and many more.

I love the brand’s mission statement:

“We make our watches for people who don’t just have somewhere to be, they have somewhere to go.”

Slowing down and shifting our mindsets can be incredibly powerful in today’s culture.

THE WATCH

I chose the Walnut and Black style from the Hyde series, which is actually showcased as a men’s style.  I’ve always been into the oversized, boyfriend trends and a statement piece like this makes a perfect pairing. BONUS-my husband can add a few links and wear it as well (not anytime soon, however)! The women’s styles include many smaller bands and faces if that’s your preference.

I’m partial to this particular wood because growing up on a farm, I would help my grandma crack open dried walnuts harvested from the wild Black Walnut tree in her backyard.  As cheesy as it sounds, I love honoring that memory when I check the time.

I was hoping for a lighter color based on the website photos, but I’m happy with the dark, rich hues with bits of highlights.

The black face ensures a great look with my mostly minimalist closet of white, black and beige neutrals. A clumsy, graceless individual like myself will appreciate the scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass face.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I’m loving the all-wood, quality watch so far and it’s quickly become an essential accessory when I’m not out hiking, in the dirt or on the water. It’s splash proof but shouldn’t be submerged in water so practice caution if you’re an avid outdoors-person.

One last note-My husband is keen to take it over for himself, but not until I’ve styled it through several seasons.  Until then, he’ll be entering the giveaway below, too!
